Most History teachers are familiar with Billy Joel's history filled song, but this video clip breaks down each reference with an image to make it much easier to understand for students. You could get students into pairs and give each pair a few lines from the song. They are to then go away and research Who/What/Where/When/Why/How etc for thei events/people/Concepts they have been given. It could also be a great way to get them out of class and away from book/internet only research and instead encourge them to speak to adults in their whanau, school or wider community to see what people remember and what they dont and then get students to report back to the class.
